In the 1970s, construction equipment began to modernise with wooden formwork panels, followed by large-area formwork. This modular system required iron accessories to determine the wall thickness and brackets for the ARMO and SAM closure: the spacers.

The international industrial construction market, in those years of increase, required for prefabricated construction, a secure cover capable of bridging the distance of the reinforcing iron, from the outer point of the wall; it was on that moment born the intuition of the plastic spacer.

The many customers we met at the most important international trade fairs (e.g. World of Concrete - Las Vegas, Bauma - München, Construmat - Barcelona, Saie - Bologna, Project Lebanon - Beirut) recognised the limitation of using empirical systems that did not guarantee the maximum efficiency of reinforced concrete.

These accessories are the starting point of the Buffoni family with more than 50 years’ experience in the construction spacer sector, which has characterised the past of the following companies:
• Plastybeton;
• Plastysa;
• Markaplast.

Turtle S.r.l., founded in 2014, is a company specializing in the production and sale of spacers, nationally and internationally.

The design of new articles, with a range of over 220, and the development of the automated production process allow the production of millions of spacers per year.
